I have watched RAANJHANAA
thrice in the theatre and I consider it ONE
PIECE which is very well directed by Anand L. Rai.
Stunning music by A. R. Rahman. The
theme of the movie is quite realistic. Obviously it’s a mind blowing hit and a movie
worth watching. It comes with the
idea of innocent and true feelings of love and never-ending hope and tells us
that we should never give up on true love. The story is full of surprises and
it’s an extraordinary love story of an extraordinary lover. All the actors have
done a marvelous job. Dhanush is unbelievable; he has achieved a new level of
acting.
There are so many things which are very beautifully shown in
the movie. The whole story moves around the main character Kundan(Dhanush), the
Pundit’s son. Kundan loves Zoya(Sonam Kapoor) from his childhood. Zoya is from the
Muslim community. Once in 9th standard Kundan forcefully makes Zoya
to accept his love proposal by cutting down his wrist but Zoya is sent out of
the town for the study when her father comes to know about this matter. There
Zoya falls in love with Akram/Jasjeet Singh(Abhay Deol) who leads his own new political
party named AICP(ALL INDIA CITIZEN PARTY) in Delhi, which aims to change the
Government to bring the revolution. So this movie also deals with the political
aspects which go parallel with the love story. Jasjeet Singh(Abhay Deol) is
also a very good supporting character.
When Zoya comes back after completing the study she doesn’t
even remember Kundan and when Kundan asks her for the marriage she considers
him just a good friend explaining whatever happened in the 9th
standard was just a childish thing. Now one more important character Bindiya(Swara
Bhaskar) who loves Kundan but Kundan doesn’t care about her feelings because he
deeply and madly loves Zoya. But Zoya doesn’t love him and when Zoya tells Kundan everything
about her love, Kundan gets hurt and attempts to commit suicide but he is saved by his closest friend Murari who is always with
Kundan in each and every situation and very well performed as a supporting
character by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.
If we do an analysis of the movie we can say that Kundan
loves Zoya very deeply and truly but always gets hurt by Zoya because she
doesn’t love him and rejects his proposal. So, we would feel pity for Kundan
but if we minutely observe we would find that unknowingly Kundan is doing the
same thing to Bindiya which Zoya has done to him. So here’s the law of nature
that a person loves someone and gets hurt but knowingly or unknowingly he/she
has done the same thing with someone else who loves him/her but the person may
not aware of it. The character of Zoya seems to be a selfish type of character.
Zoya rejects Kundan’s proposal only
because she is Muslim and Kundan is Hindu. But later on she falls in love with
a Hindu boy and to marry him she cheats with her family and also Kundan. Zoya
never takes Kundan’s feeling seriously or respects it, just takes the benefits
of his feelings by his aid, keeping him in the dark, and she pays the price for
it. And in the end Kundan cannot get his love Zoya though he sacrifices his
whole life for her, which may be related to the religious aspect shown
throughout the movie that Bindiya always fasts and prays to the mother cow that
Kundan can not marry Zoya. So, who is right? Whose feeling is true? Kundan,
Zoya or Bindiya? May be all of them are right in one or another way but the
bitter truth is, the situation and their luck are against them. Somewhere they fail
to recognize that wanting something forcefully always leads to pain and sorrow.
We can see that as Zoya cannot see what Kundan feels for her, Kundan also ignores
Bindiya’s feelings. So, the main problem
is, we always wait for someone special to come into our lives but we never know
that that special person may have been always around us, but it’s our bad luck
that we fail to recognize. And this concept seems to be more real, which is
quite related to the reality. That’s why there are very beautiful lines from
the song PIYA MILENGE,
l

And some other lines like,

DIALOGUES
"ये देख तेरे लिए स्कूटर खरीदा था, तू बेइठी ही नहीं l मेरे पीछे बैठना पड़ेगा l मेरी कमर पकडनी पड़ेगी l में ब्रेक मारू तो मेरे ऊपर गिरना पड़ेगा l मेरी बातो पे हसना पड़ेगा l मेरे साथ गाना गाना पड़ेगा l इतना तो कर ही देगी तू l गर्लफ्रेंड ना सही, फील ही देदे l", says Kundan to Zoya expressing his deep, innocent and pure feelings.
“हम खून बहाए, तुम आंसू बहाओ l साली आशीकी ना हो गयी, लाठीचार्ज हो गया l", says Kundan to Zoya.
“तुम्हे क्या
लगता है
जोया, तुम
बहुत हूर
की परी
हो l तुम्हे
प्यार करना
मेरा टैलेंट
है जोया,
ईसमे तुम्हारा
कोई हाथ
नहीं है l तुम्हारी जगह कोई भी होती
तो में
उससे भी
इतना ही
टूट के
प्यार करता l",says
Kundan to Zoya
Another one important dialogue when Zoya talks about her love Jasjeet Singh and tells Kundan,
“ ये सब मेरे साथ पहली बार हो रहा था कुंदन l बनारस से लेके अलीगढ और फिर दील्ही तक ये पहला इंसान था जिसने मुझे ऐसे ट्रीट किया था l उसके लिए जैसे बस में थी l जैसे बाकी लोग वैसी में l"
This seems to prove the psychology of our mind that we always fall in love or get attracted to the person who just ignores us, doesn’t give so much importance and doesn’t care for us, not with the person who is deeply attached with us, madly loves us and always looks after us.
In one scene of the movie when Zoya is telling
Kundan, “तुम्हे कुछ
समज में
आता है
कुंदन l तुम्हारे
हैदर l ये
है l" At
that time Kundan(Dhanush) gives excellent
expressions and he might be thinking, “अरे पगली, प्यार
होता l प्यार
है और
शंकर l ये
है जो
है l"
MOST
TOUCHING DIALOGUES
This dialogue is indeed very deep... Though Kundan knew
everything, he just sacrifices himself for his love.
Last but not least,
This
is how the tragedy of a true lover takes place. "प्यार में तडपते तो बहुत है इस दुनिया में , पर कुंदन तो तड़प तड़प के तड़पता है l that’s
why in the last scene Murari says, "मरजा पंडित l" Because
he was bearing more than death.
True love needs no proof but Kundan had to prove his love.
Kundan loves Zoya but gets rejected. He tries but gets rejected. He helps her but
gets insulted. He fights for her love and at last he wins but he is no more…
I
must say that Raanjhanaa is the best...the one... The masterpiece… biggest
immortal heart touching hit of the decade undoubtedly. The love story that
never dies. Mind blowing acting by Dhanush and Sonam. Excellent...a must-watch
movie. Raanjhanaa rules on the box-office. I can say that raanjhanaa has given Dhanush
a very good start in Bollywood and it will be very lucky for both Dhanush and Sonam.
Wish you luck, to both Sonam and Dhanush for the brightest career.

DeleteVow! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt seems I will have to see this movie - your review has aroused curiosity to watch it.
Thank You, so much Barad Sir...And it's a really worth watching movie...
ReplyDeleteWell expressed Yashpalsinh Gohil! But I would say there are always multiple perspectives and various thoughts or interpretations on single matter! The movie is again about the same old story of love which demands sacrifice and self-abnegation. The movie is highly philosophical and it can be visualized here. It seems to be satirizing today's love stories which have nothing to do with this kind of concepts and perhaps it is the only reason why people prefer to watch movies of practical approaches to highly philosophical movies! The area of interest plays major role and director has to be careful but some directors are making movies which fall under the category of ''experimental movies''. Say for example shaitan movie. This movie ''Raanjhanna'' shows a common characteristic of LOVE. I agree with your points. But the movie lacks a kind of practicality and it may be a major reason behind dislikes of the people! It too gives a message to people which is worth understanding. People always remain adhesive and blind to those whom they don't deserve or to those who don't want to be with them but being a lover, they forget that there may be someone who loves them truly and unintentionally. The girl ( I don't remember her name) She goes on praying to mother cow about her love and she turns so selfish that she doesn't think of him that if he marries that girl whom he loves ; he will be happy in his life but she doesn't want her lover to be with her. So at some extent it shows her selfishness. Love is not only about having that person in our life but letting that person be happy with the people of their own world whom they truly love. Love doesn't exist unless there will be true and genuine realization from both the sides. If one is not happy or doesn't love the other one, there ought not to be forceful deeds. The most important thing which movie conveys is we can't force anyone to love us or to be with us if they love , if they have the same feelings then and then they will come! Otherwise they won't. If they will be ours, then they will surely come. There should be a space of one's own! If Dhanush had moved on in his life,he would have survived or lived his life happily. People has destroyed the image of this word ''move on'' but it has charm and it itself is a beautiful word which indicates a genuine process of our life! To move on is not inferior or worst thing but some times it has to be taken! If I speak of Sonam's character many a times it feels that her character falls under the category of dump but it also feels that she deserves the place where she has been put up in the movie and it is properly hers indeed! Through her character it is proved that extreme level of anything or true love doesn't make any difference because the person's desire only matters! As you said that she also uses Dhanush so it also creates conflict here. The movie also shows a kind of evil side of love which completely destroys the one! It shows the story of FIRST LOVE. it is too hard for anyone to forget. There is a vast difference in making people convinced. As a lover convincing and confessing becomes necessary but to convince people forcefully is not right way! Too much possessiveness becomes hurdle some times and it harms and makes the person guilty because of their refusal and rejection! We never know the result as Dhanush dies in the movie but it hasn't been clarified that what will be the situation in Sonam's life after Dhanush's death. Now she has to live life with this unbearable memory! I have many points to discuss but I'll stop here! Your review is well expressed.
ReplyDeleteHello, Hirva Vora , I appreciate your view but as you say that the producer should be careful and should invest in the movies those deal with the practical approach rather than highly philosophical but I would say that it is your perspective.. It’s all about the priorities. It’s up to the producer whether he/she wants to give priority to the money or to the messages or any particular idea which he/she wants to deliver in the movie.
DeleteAs you are talking about the moving on thing, I would say it’s never a bad thing. But it also depends how you have defined the love. If you prefer to move on in your life then you can because it’s all about your priorities and it’s your decision. But as you said that if Kundan had moved on, he would have survived but it was Kundan’s decision that he prefered to die rather than moving on because for him, his love was his life.
According to you it is the same old story of love which demands sacrifice and it hasn’t any practical approach but it’s your review of the movie. You just said in the very beginning that there are different perspectives. So, everybody may not look for practical approach. And I must say that we should always look for the things which are present rather than absent in any work. And if you will minutely see the movie, you will find that this movie deals with practical and emotional both the things. The message given in the movie aims to aware every Kundan, Zoya and Bindiya of the real world that we should not try to get anything forcefully and also we should let the person go whom we love but he/she doesn’t love us back and doesn’t respect our feelings, that is one perspective which is practical. And from another perspective you will find that it gives the message that you should never give up on true love and also gives the understanding that what is true love, which is emotional. So it’s like all the things are there and same for all but it depends how you see those things and what you gain from it. And none of the arts can be generalized and apply to all. And everybody is not Kundan or Zoya or Bindiya. This story is just an example which may be related to any real story or may be not. It can be either realistic or imaginary. This kind of works intends to deliver any particular message which may save or change any person’s life. So, by and large people try to see themselves in the movies and try to relate it to their lives and somehow they see themselves as the character in the movie whether it is Kundan, Zoya or Bindiya. All the people watch one movie but they all see different things in one movie. So, it’s all perspective and always up to an individual. And you said that this movie was disliked but it’s a super hit movie. But I personally never rely on such things as whether it is super hit or not. If I like it, it’s a super hit for me; that’s it. And I must say that I had declared this movie a super hit on Facebook before one week from its release date just because I felt it. So, Box-office is there, Critics are there and Big Banners are also there but it’s your decision whether you want to go with one of these or with your own self. It may happen that any movie may not have done good on Box-office but you may like it. So there is always an individual’s view.
just pray on behalf of me to god to convince my parents to allow me to join movie making course! Such movies really inspire me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI will surely pray to God that your wish come true.

ReplyDeleteOne couple, one side love, such a strange movie that one always thinks, should it happen with the hero? No any horizons to hero's sentiments but hardly affect stone-hearted Zoya who always becomes spectators' angry words. Trully dedication of knowledge in reviewing this movie, Yashpalsinh...keep doing this...
